In this episode I am discussing how saying No to business and unnecessary meetings brings you more focus and clarity in conducting business successfully. I know, it sounds weird, but listen in…
Listen in here:
Over the past few months I have shifted into saying No to business proposals and meetings that do not fit with what I am focused on today. At first it felt awkward in doing this because previously I was thinking I should be open to potential opportunities.
What I found was that quite the opposite was happening. One business or networking meeting was sending me on a blind chase to a dead end. It was exhausting and I lost focus on what my business should truly be about. Another example involves a business collaboration that I was open to but when I looked a bit deeper, I was confident to say No because the collaboration did not meet my business standards.
What I decided to do instead involved getting quiet and asking myself what I must do today to get the results I am looking to achieve. My meetings are now based in a collaborative mode so that both parties are having more influential discussions focused on results.
When I talk about saying No to business, you become more focused on where you spend your time, you become more clear on what direction to take, and your conversations are more engaging with others.
How do you start on getting clarity in saying No?
- First, take a look at everything you have scheduled on your calendar
- What is important to keep on the schedule?
- What can be removed or rescheduled for a later time (if it still fits)?
- What MUST be scheduled that you have been putting off?
These are the 3 questions that have brought more alignment in my schedule and has given me more clarity. If a new meeting is presented to me, I am not in a rush to add it so quickly to my calendar. Instead, I am asking myself where and how does this fit with the business strategies that I am working on now.
This is your time, You are the only one who can make it happen. No MORE excuses.
