EP #99: Earning Trust Through The Confidence Factor

Your level of confidence determines your level of results. As a business owner, it’s important to have confidence in yourself, service and products you offer. If you are  lacking confidence in these areas, the success level of the business will produce mediocre results.

I was reading an article on Forbes recently about the Science of Self Confidence (http://www.forbes.com/sites/margiewarrell/2015/02/26/build-self-confidence-5strategies/#3adaa87772ed)

Basically, they explain people are not selected on who is born with confidence versus those that may not have confidence. This skill is developed through retraining the mind’s mapping.

For example: When I was working for a Hedge Fund in Dallas, I was being trained on how to confirm a bond trade.

I was terrified to learn this process because person on the other end of the line was well versed in this process and they had very little time to waste. The confirmation should only take 10 seconds or less to confirm.

My first confirmation call, I completely botched the message and my trainer had to take over the conversation. I was floored on how fast they talk and move through the confirmation process. IT WAS Lighting FAST!!!

I did not give up on learning this system. I had to learn it! So I practiced on the side and practiced with live trades that needed the confirmations completed. By the end of the first 2 weeks, I had it down. My confidence was up and I remapped my thought process to seeing success.

This is a small example, but retraining the mind in areas where we are lacking the knowledge or training to perform a necessary task is imperative to building confidence.

Why is confidence necessary?

Confidence is a factor people resonate with in building a trustworthy relationship. I am not talking about the egotistic confidence that turns people away from doing business. This is the belief and reliability that you are the best resource, person, or catalyst in making an impact for the better where another business or service may be lacking. You are not going to be the best fit for everything, but having the confidence in knowing what you are good at will lead to the connections you are meant to service.

The opportunities are endless as a result from this bond/connection.

Great questions to ask yourself:

  • Where is my confidence lacking in the areas of service/products I offer?
  • What must I do to remap my thoughts/mindset to have confidence in these areas?
  • What resources/people should I learn from?
